Dear Sir,
Thank you for your e-mail enquiry of 04 June 2011.
The flash unit “mecablitz 44 AF-1C digital” (for Canon) is equipped with a sensor for the cordless remote control mode. Sensor’s position is marked with position 6 in flash unit’s instruction manual (see the attached page, please).
However on flash unit you will not see anything of this sensor.
The sensor 6 is hidden under the infrared-transmissive cover on flash unit’s rear side.
So it is possible to use this flash unit “mecablitz 44 AF-1C digital” in the special digital cordless remote mode as a slave unit.
The built-in camera flashes of the Canon EOS 7D, EOS 60D and EOS 600D are suitable to control the mentioned flash unit wirelessly.
The built-in camera flashes of the other Canon cameras are not suitable to control the flash unit wirelessly. Usually, these cameras can control the flash unit “mecablitz 44 AF-1C digital” only with an additional accessory in camera’s hot shoe, like a “Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2”.
Please be informed, that the mentioned flash unit “mecablitz 44 AF-1C digital” is also suitable for running as a slave unit in the very special digital wireless “Canon Remote-Control System”.
Unfortunately, the built-in camera flash of the digital camera “Canon EOS 1000D” does not support this digital wireless “Canon Remote-Control System” in any way. As the very special digital wireless “Canon Remote-Control System” isn’t possible with camera’s built-in flash, this special function is also not mentioned in camera’s instruction manual.
As it is dependent on the type of camera whether it is possible to use camera’s built-in flash as a master/controller this is also mentioned in flash unit’s instruction manual.
As in the meantime new cameras are released in very short time intervals it isn’t possible to keep a printed medium always updated. For this reason in flash unit’s instruction manual not any camera is mentioned.
By reason of the camera “Canon EOS 1000D” you need additional equipment in camera’s hot shoe to run as a master/controller. This master/controller function can be fulfilled by a suitable flash unit like “mecablitz 58 AF-2 digital” (Canon version) or a flash unit “Canon Speedlite 580EX”. Alternatively you can also use a “Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2”. Only with this equipment it is possible to control the flash unit “mecablitz 44 AF-1 digital” in full automatic wireless E-TTL flash control mode.
We hope this information has been of help for you and remain
With kind regards
Wolfgang Becker
